Carving has been at the heart of my creative life for over twenty-five years. It’s more than just a form of woodworking. It’s a way of seeing, shaping, and bringing stories to life through the textures and lines hidden within raw wood. With handheld tools and patience, I carve each piece by hand, revealing the spirit within the material and adding depth, emotion, and character to every form.
My journey into carving began unexpectedly, while helping my sons earn their Whittling Chip as Webelos in the Cub Scouts. Sitting beside them with a knife in hand, I felt the quiet thrill of slicing into wood and uncovering its potential. What started as a shared activity quickly grew into a passionate hobby. And ultimately, a lifelong craft that continues to shape who I am today.
Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide variety of woods, each offering its own challenges and inspirations. Whether I’m carving Celtic knotwork, feathered owl figures, or custom walking sticks, I strive to infuse each creation with expression and meaning. For me, carving is never just about the finished piece—it’s about the intention behind every cut and curve.
Revealing beauty, meaning, and emotion—Carving one cut at a time.
I do most of my carving in my home workshop and in my “man-cave” in Woodstock, GA. It’s there, surrounded by tools and shavings, that I find focus and flow. Some of my most meaningful works have come from these spaces. For example, the walking stick I carved for my wife, Terri—a piece that took countless hours and now stands as a symbol of love, craftsmanship, and dedication.
Carving is a journey of continuous growth. There’s always a new technique to learn, a design to challenge myself with, or a deeper layer to uncover. Both in the wood and in myself. Every project is an opportunity to evolve, and I remain committed to pushing the boundaries of what carving can express. For me, it’s not just a skill. It’s a lifelong conversation with the material, and it’s one I’ll never stop exploring.
