Hand-Cut Turquoise Cabochons, One Stone at a Time

Turquoise Keep is the lapidary work of Phillip Kozlowski. From rough turquoise to the final polish, each cabochon is shaped individually to reveal the color, matrix, and character already present in the stone.

Only cabochons shown as Available in the Turquoise Keep Shop are currently offered for sale.

From Rough Turquoise to Finished Cabochon

Rough turquoise selected for lapidary work

The stone comes first.

Phillip begins with rough material and studies the stone before deciding how to cut it. The goal is not to force every piece into the same shape. It is to work with the natural pattern, color, matrix, and structure of that individual piece.

Some turquoise benefits from stabilization before cutting. When a cabochon is offered for sale, its treatment is disclosed so the buyer knows what they are purchasing.

Cutting and Polishing

Phillip uses his cabbing machine to shape, refine, and polish each cabochon through progressively finer wheels. The work is done by hand, with the stone checked throughout the process so its natural color, matrix, and form guide the final shape.

Dopped and Ready to Shape

Before shaping, selected turquoise pieces are mounted on dopping sticks so Phillip can hold and control each stone safely at the cabbing machine. This preparation makes it easier to work precisely while preserving the individual character of the turquoise.

Made One Stone at a Time

Each Turquoise Keep cabochon is hand-cut and polished by Phillip. Because the stones are one of a kind, no two pieces are interchangeable. The exact cabochon shown in an individual shop listing is the stone the buyer receives.

Phillip also confirms the stone information used in each listing. Mine or origin is named only when it is known, treatment is disclosed, and the stone is individually numbered so the physical cabochon can be matched to its listing and records.

Each available cabochon listing includes:

  • The exact numbered cabochon
  • Actual carat weight and measurements
  • Confirmed treatment information
  • Mine or origin when verified
  • A clear total purchase price and current availability

Current inventory lives in one place: the Turquoise Keep Shop. Process photographs and educational images on this page show how Phillip works and should not be read as current inventory.
